The Greater New Haven Clean Cities Coalition, Inc. (GNHCCC) covers the towns and cities in New Haven County. There are 23 Stakeholders in the coalition composed of both companies, municipalities, civic groups and individuals with more joining on a regular basis. The charter for our activities is located in a Memorandum of Understanding with US Department of Energy’s National Clean Cities Program, which is renewed every five years. The coalition’s goals are to promote air quality, public health, energy security, and economic development, while decreasing our dependence on foreign oil. The coalition is one of four coalitions in the state of Connecticut. The four coalitions work together to provide information, outreach and technical information about alternative fuels and vehicles to the people of Connecticut. The GNHCCC is a chapter of the Transportation Energy Partnership based in Washington DC, which provides the coalition the status of a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization. The GNHCCC accomplishes its alternative fuel and vehicle goals by providing assistance to companies, municipalities, groups and individuals through a variety of means. We provide information through out-reach programs, technical information, coordination with fuel and original equipment providers (OEMs), as well as direct links to government agencies and laboratories. In addition we provide information and assistance in pursuing a variety of grants and funding sources at the state and federal level. The Clean Cities Program has expanded its focus to include fuel blends, hybrids, fuel economy improvements and idle reduction, all of which are included in the local focus of the GNHCCC. In addition with the closure of the US Department of Energy Regional offices in June of 2006, the local coalitions to include ours are shouldering more responsibility as the local point of contact for the US Department of Energy. Although it is not part of our charter, our coalition will assist and provide information about other US Department of Energy programs, as well as local stationary alternative energy programs. |
